28 Days Later comes out today. oh, how happy i am. i'll be seeing it sunday or monday.
in other news, i found *2* reviews for a great cult movie called The Refrigerator today.
Review: the first.
Review: the second by Joe Bob Briggs.
if anyone finds me a copy of this movie i will kiss you. i mean it. I am the waffle maker.
sigh. picture galleries are still being thumbnailed. that's my excuse for not keeping up journal. ahh well. maybe more soon. i started figure drawing class and my first 20 minute sketches turned out surprisingly well. i know that i drew better than i ever have before, and also had the effervescent feeling that i would continue to feel that way after every class. i'm quite happy about this.

Posted by: weight loss on January 17, 2005 12:08 PMIf biologists have ignored self organization, it is not because self ordering is not pervasive and profound. It is because we biologists have yet to understand how to think about systems governed simultaneously by two sources of order, Yet who seeing the snowflake, who seeing simple lipid molecules cast adrift in water forming themselves into cell like hollow lipid vesicles, who seeing the potential for the crystallization of life in swarms of reacting molecules, who seeing the stunning order for free in networks linking tens upon tens of thousands of variables, can fail to entertain a central thought, if ever we are to attain a final theory in biology, we will surely, surely have to understand the commingling of self organization
and selection.
When the human brain took its final shape, say, 100,000 years ago, problems and solutions must have been exceedingly simple. There were no long range problems and man had to grab any immediate advantage. The world has changed but we are still willing to sell more distant vital interests for some minor immediate gains. Our military industrial complex, which endangers the future of mankind, to a great extent owes its stability to the fact that so may people depend on it for their living.
